A great holiday venue for all seasons
When you imagine a holiday in the South West of France you probably think of the hot, hazy days of high summer lazing by the pool and eating al fresco. It’s true that it is wonderful here in July and August but there is something to make your visit to Peyrenègre enjoyable from March to October. The climate is a cross between Atlantic maritime and Mediterranean. Early springs, long hot summers and mild winters.
If you want to taste Spring early this is the place. During March the forsythia sports its jaunty yellow flowers. The trees are budding and the garden birds are visiting. The light here is amazing and if you like walking this is the perfect time to come. Home for a sauna and then relax those muscles in the hot tub looking up at the stars – wonderful! The evenings may still be a little chilly so curl up by the log fire with a book or a film and a glass of local wine!
Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” ~Robin Williams
By April the garden is a busy place. Tulips add splashes of red and yellow and the geraniums are emerging from their winter quarters. Planting has started in the potager and the greenhouse has lettuce a plenty to share. This is ideal walking, cycling and riding weather – bright, sunny days with ideal temperatures. Want a more relaxing time? – follow one of the many car trails visiting beautiful bastide towns or sites with panoramic views. The pool is open and heated and there are many sunny days to tempt you in for a swim.
April hath put a spirit of youth in everything. ~William Shakespeare
In May average temperatures are up to 22°(and often higher) – you will definitely be using the pool and eating al fresco. Visit the local markets – there is one nearby every day of the week – and buy fresh local food direct from the producer. Longer walks or cycle rides through the orchards and around the village will work up an appetite – time to get that BBQ going!
“Now every field is clothed with grass, and every tree with leaves; now the woods put forth their
blossoms, and the year assumes its gay attire.”
- Virgil
June is one of our favourite months here at Peyrenègre. It feels like a very good English summer with temperatures averaging 25° – the garden is at its best with the lavender and oleander in bloom and the trees and grass creating a lush green backcloth for the spectacular views. The cherry trees have fruit for everyone and lots left for the birds – pick as many as you like and try them hot for dessert – delicious!!!!
“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June.”
- L. M. Montgomery
July and August find the Lot-et-Garonne in holiday mood. There are numerous events organised in the villages and towns of the region. The evening farmer’s markets are a must – take your knives and forks and buy your meal direct from the producer. With music and entertainment provided you can spend an evening enjoying the local food and wine and relaxing as the locals do. With temperatures reaching 28° and more you will love the pool with it’s salt water filtration, sunbathing areas and pool house with games and fridge for those long, cool drinks. We welcome a lot of families durng these months and we have a range of activities for all ages. The grounds are a children’s paradise – plenty of space to run and explore. The children’s play area has swings, slide, trampoline and football and badminton nets and there is an indoor area with table tennis, baby football and a range of toys and games.
“Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is
jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief
that all’s right with the world.”
- Ada Louise Huxtable
September stays relatively mild with temperatures around 24/25° and there is generally little rain. You will still be enjoying the pool and the range of facilities at Peyrenègre. Enjoy the many local restaurants offering wonderful menus for an amazing price and explore the local towns and villages – September is a great month for exploring the local antiques markets and vide greniers (car boot sales!).
“Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always
been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”
- Henry James
Whatever time of year you choose for your holiday at Peyrenègre we are sure you will be charmed by the local scenery, the food and drink and the warmth of the people. This is really a wonderful place to recharge your batteries and to do as the locals do – prendre le temps à vivre ( take the time to live)!
