The other route to consider if you are bringing your own car is by tunnel to Calais with Euro tunnel.

By Train + Hire Car
Take a Eurostar train to either paris or Lille (change in Paris from Gare du Nord to Gare de Montparnasse - an easy metro journey) then the TGV to Bordeaux which has connections to Marmande.

This is a delightful way to travel though France. If you book well ahead you may find the first class fare affordable ( a little treat to start the holiday !).

Europcar is situated directly opposite the station at Marmande for your holiday car rental.
