Holidaying in SW France with children

It is easy to understand why this quiet, unspoiled area of SW France is popular with busy couples who are looking for a really relaxing get away to help them recharge those batteries. But is there the same appeal for families with children – does this rural setting work for them too?

Well we have the guest book feedback of many families to confirm that it does. So why is Peyrenègre so popular with families and why do many of them return year after year?

You may be surprised to hear that the children like the peace and quiet too! They like the space they have to run , play and explore. They appreciate the wildlife and love identifying the many birds of prey that circle the fields at Peyrenègre. They love playing with our two dogs – many families can’t keep a dog because of space limitation or work commitments so they borrow ours during their holiday. The dogs are delighted to go on long or short walks and for many children are the highlight of the holiday! We have many outdoor games and families enjoy playing table tennis and badminton together or with the family in our second gite.

Of course, the pool is a huge attraction. The salt water filtration means no stinging eys and children can play happily for ours. There are lots of sunbeds, pool toys and a pool house with a fridge to keep your drinks cold. Just across the vegetable patch is the children’s area with swings, netted trampoline , football goals and plenty of bats and balls.

One of earliest clients here at Peyrenègre was a work colleague of mine from my previous life. Her husband was not convinced that a holiday at Peyrenègre would work for their children then aged 6, 8 and 10. They were used to taking mobile homes on French campsites which had organised children’s entertainment and he was worried that the children would be bored here in the French countryside. They found that they enjoyed much more family time here at Peyrenègre and played games together. They all enjoyed having so much pool with so few people and the 6 year old learned to swim without armbands. After they left us they moved on to their more familiar camping site but the children missed the freedom they had here and found the pool noisy and full of larger children. Their father was happy to admit he had been wrong about the suitability of holidaying with children in the heart of the French countryside – and when he realised how much better value it was here we knew we would see them all again!

We are sure that you will find that this is a location that is suitable for both adults and children. We have tried to provide activities for all ages and our large number of returning families must mean we are doing something right!
